What is the Junior Scholarship?

The Junior Scholarship (জুনিয়র বৃত্তি) is a merit exam for Class 8 students, run by the education boards. Selected students get money every month, plus a lump sum once a year, until they finish Class 10.

The exam went missing for a long time. The JSC public exam took its place years ago, and JSC was then abolished in 2023 along with the old curriculum. That left Class 8 with nothing. In December 2025 the government brought the scholarship exam back, and it was the first one in 17 years.

Who Can Participate — Eligibility

Not every Class 8 student sits this exam. The school picks the candidates.

A school can send a minimum of 20 percent and a maximum of 40 percent of its Class 8 students.

The syllabus is the full Class 8 textbook. There is no short syllabus this year. Questions follow the NCTB textbooks and the question structure NCTB sets for each subject.

Scholarship Types

Talentpool (merit) scholarship

Talentpool (মেধাবৃত্তি) goes to the highest scorers and pays more. Boards distribute it upazila or thana wise, and nationally, in proportion to the total scholarships. When a number works out odd, the place goes to the student with higher marks rather than the last name on the list.

General scholarship

General (সাধারণ বৃত্তি) goes to the next group. It follows the same upazila and thana distribution, and there are more than twice as many of them.

The 50-50 rule

Half of every kind of scholarship is reserved for boys and half for girls. If a quota cannot be filled with eligible candidates, a girl can take a boy’s seat and a boy can take a girl’s.

Scholarship Monthly Stipend & Annual Grant

The payments cover Class 9 and Class 10. In practice that means support right up to the SSC exam.

CategoryMonthlyYearly one-time grantDuration
TalentpoolTk 450Tk 5602 years
GeneralTk 300Tk 3502 years

A proposal is sitting with the government, and it is a big one. The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education has asked to raise the number of junior scholarships by 20 percent, from 46,200 to 55,440, and to double the money at the same time.

The same proposal doubles the rates. Talentpool would move to Tk 900 a month with a Tk 1,120 yearly grant. General would move to Tk 600 a month with Tk 700. A Talentpool student’s yearly benefit would rise from Tk 5,960 to Tk 11,920, and a general student’s from Tk 3,950 to Tk 7,900. The government’s two-year cost would climb from about Tk 42.40 crore to about Tk 101.78 crore.

Junior Scholarship Result 2026

When will it come out? Expect it by the end of December 2026.

No date has been announced. The education calendar that first fixed this exam had also fixed the result date. It planned the exam for 15 to 20 December and set 30 December as the day the result would come out. The exam has since moved a week earlier, to 8 to 15 December, which leaves the boards more marking time, not less. So the last week of December remains the realistic window.

The boards have not issued a separate result notice yet, and until the Junior Scholarship Result 2026 will be published on 30 December 2026.

Winning is step one. The paperwork is step two, and it decides whether the money actually reaches you.

Your school sends the winner’s information to the board. Bank account details go with it, because the stipend is disbursed by the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education and not handed over at the school gate. Keep the account name spelled exactly as it appears on the result.

Changed school after Class 8? Tell both institutions in writing. A scholarship follows the student, but only if the paperwork follows too.

If you believe the result is wrong, go to your education board. Do not go to a coaching centre or a Facebook page with your roll number.Next Steps After the Result
